I was looking for a non-centralized mechanism for websites to "push" 
information to all interested parties holding Jabber clients.

 From the specs it seems that RSSping could be at the core of this. But 
I think a minimal authentication will be needed to avoid DOS attacks or 
false information from spreading.

Do you plan to add authentication to the spec anytime soon?

There are no current plans to write authentication into the spec, I would
recommend looking at OpenID.. There is not XMPP ping infrastructure on the
net right now.
